Winter 2010

The schedule is up on the Team Cowboy site.  Here is the summary:

1/10 - 4:30pm Perigo Park (Eastside) vs Nuns and Monkeys
1/17 - 1:15pm Lower Woodland vs Supernova
1/23 - 11:15am Lower Woodland vs Hot Wings  (Sat game)
1/31 - 11:15am Sealth Stadium vs Blue Fish
2/7 - 9:30am Interbay Stadium vs Salvation Fuzz
2/14 - 1:00pm Perigo Park (Eastside) vs Nuns and Monkeys
2/21 - 5:00pm Shoreline B vs Supernova
2/27 - 1:00pm Upper Genesse vs Hot Wings (Sat Game)
3/7 - 9:30am Lower Woodland vs Blue Fish
3/14 - 6:15pm Upper Genesse vs Salvation Fuzz

A lot of teams are red this season (4 out of 6).  That means there are a lot of games where we'll need to bring white.

There are a few folks that still have to pay.  Looks like we might need a lady for the winter but we'll have to see if Jen has healed up over the holidays.

Happy Holidays and I'll see you on the pitch.

Dilemma this Sunday

This Sunday our game starts an hour before the Sounders game.  The dilemma for most of us will be to play or not.  I say play!!  They have methods to record the game and watch it later.  I would volunteer my place as a viewing location but we are remodeling our bathroom and the place is a danger zone.  If anyone is willing to offer their place as a viewing location for post game watching that would be great.  Otherwise, record it on your own and watch it after a Naked City victory!!

That said, please RSVP as soon as you can so we can get subs if needed.

As for the game this week, I want to thanks those who played for not  being like the other team.  They took the fun of the game away from us and that sucks.  I have an email into Co-Rec about the game and will keep you informed as to what I find out.  I guess we bring this out in other teams, or we just play against some douche bags ( I think they are douche bags).  At any rate, please continue to keep the game fun and what it is A GAME.  That is the reason I really enjoy playing with all of you.

GO SOUNDERS!

Cougar Hunting!?

Couple of  things...

First great game last night, after about 20 shots over the bar we finally got one in thanks to a great header by Bruce.  They really never sniffed the goal except when I decided to make it interesting and had to run my ass off to get the one I let bounce by me.  Great game by the defense and the offense kept the pressure on them.  We are now 3 - 1 - 3 (W-D-L) after starting the season with 3 straight losses.

Second, the showing at the pub was a little lame but at least we had a full table.  I'll let you know what I hear about the funding possiblities once I hear back.  To carry on with the conversation from last night, Will I found a great website for you - http://cougarlife.com/.  Also, MLS apparently doesn't weight away goals, from the Sounders website -
Conference Semifinal series are conducted in a home-and-home, aggregate-goal format. The lower seeded team hosts the first game. The team that scores the most goals in the home-and-home series advances to the single-elimination Conference Championship. If the teams are tied after 180 minutes in the Conference Semifinal series, a 30-minute extra time period (divided into two 15-minute periods) will be played, followed by kicks from the penalty spot, if necessary.
Also here is a recap of the Sounders win
Third, several of you still have to pay for the winter season, please bring your money/check to the  next game.

Finally, we now have had two injuries in the last two games.  Mike Little broke his foot last night (or he finished breaking the fracture).  And super sub Steve ruptured his patella tendon the previous week.  He had surgery last week and is on the road to recovery.  Our thoughts are with them and we hope to see them back on the pitch soon (but only once fully recovered).

That's all for now, see you next weekend.

It's been a while

Finally a new post for all you Naked City Soccer fans (OK most of you are team members but one can dream we have fans).  Well, I missed the first game of the season which was a 3 - 1 loss.  The second game was also a loss of 3 - 2 but only cause of a last minute goal.  We played hard that game and deserved a better result.  Maybe if some folks could have their priorities straight on game day, since when does house work and wisdom teeth work as excuses not to play?

It seems we have a bit of the injury bug on the team as well.  Greg is out with a broken toe for a few weeks, Mara-Lisa has a broken nose and is on rest by doctors orders, Liam has some broken down ankles, Mike G is just getting normal color back in his toe, Mike Little has a foot issue, Kari has the flu and it maybe of the swine kind, Kate Hasz is out for a while with an ACL injury, and several others have nagging injuries as well.  That means we need folks to respond as soon as they can with their status for the weeks game so we can be sure we field a full team.

This weeks game is against the Super Hero Rejects...not sure what that name is about be we need to be victorious this weekend.  To start the winning ways I am planning to bring the Orange tradition back, so Orange slices for half time.  As usual pints will be consumed post match at the Naked City, attendance is mandatory.

Last note, Sounders have a game on Sat against the New England Revolution.  A win almost guarantees a playoff spot so lets go boys!!

I leave you with this crazy goal, we have nothing to complain about with our refs...

Last game of the Summer 09 season

OK, it summer season is nearing an end. We are right in the middle of the pack this year with a 4-2-3 (W-T-L) record for a total of 10 points. We currently own the tier breaker for 3rd with our 3 goal differential. The teams above us play the last place team and the 4th place teams. Win and we at least stay in 3rd or maybe move up to 2nd, lose we could drop to 4th. The team we are playing, Blue Fish are the 5th place team.

Looks like the ladies are all off this week, 5 full time women can't make it, all the subs I know to call couldn't make it. Super star Karen is going to make a special guest appearance to help us out. We are still waiting on a few folks to see if they can make it (where is Sarah these days?). Right now we sit at 3 females (we have enough as of Sunday AM due to some last minute recruiting). It could be a long game. The call for all folks to try again to find females goes out.

Can anyone bring the Oranges this week? As usual, pints at Naked City post game.

BTW - for those of you not there last week we battled back from a 3-1 halftime deficit to tie the game. Many opportunities were created for a potential winning goal but none reached the back netting.

See you on the pitch

8/9 Game and next week's

Wow, that was a fast and intense game this weekend. Great job by the defense shutting things down (and Mike K when they couldn't). Over all a great fist half with a decent amount of chances and some good passing. Now, like the Sounders, we just need to work on our finishing skills. The 2nd half was a bit of a different story, seemed like we forgot there was a middle of the field and we were all up to or all on defense. Wasn't a bad tie, we'll take it. That will give us the tiebreaker with them as we beat them 2 - 1 last time. I vote Bruce for MVP of that game with a goal and an assist.

Next week looks grim for attendance. Please get your status in early. I will be out of town for that game as will Debra. I am getting anger management training and Debra is my coach. Rumors of Bryan heading out to the East Coast and Jenny going camping were also in the air at Naked City post game pinting. Not sure if others can't make it either but we need to get status so we can start looking for subs if needed.

One other note, I seemed to have some how missed Mike K at pints. He was all talk pregame...maybe it was the shame of forgetting the Oranges. Also, welcome to the new comers to pinting this past week, Larissa and Mike L had their first visit to Naked City (that I remember)

BTW - We'll be white for the next two games.

Sunday's game

This Sunday is our last game this season on a field other than Magnuson. We are in a three way tie for third right now with these guys and Blue fish (final game of the season). We beat them 2 -1 the first time around.

Since they wear orange we'll wear white. Bring the red jerseys for pinting afterwards.

Looks like we'll need some ladies for this one as we only have four at the time of this posting. Let me know if you can recruit one or two (and if you recruit any please let me know so we don't over recruit). For the ladies that are a maybe can you maybe let us know which way you are leaning.

BTW: we need someone to bring oranges!! Let me know if you can

I leave with the one of the prettier goals I have seen yet a Quest field:

See you on the pitch, and GO SOUNDERS!

Recap and Rules of Pinting

Good game today, even though we lost 2 - 1. I thought we played strong but once again failed to put the ball in the old onion sack more than them. The defense today was solid, especially in the first 15 minutes of the game when it seemed like we did touch the ball much. Mara-Lisa gets the MVP for her solid play back there, she had at least 15 single handed stops. Some great passing and crosses up top, one from Bryan to Bruce resulting in our only goal. Thanks to Steve for subbing, it made a difference on the hot turf (looks to be cooling down for next weekend).

As for the post game pinting. Some rules need to be pointed out.
  • Come as you are there is no showering (unless you were really bloody)
  • Wear your jersey (show some pride)
  • Attendance at the pub will determine status for next season (OK not really but you should come out)
  • If you score an own goal, you owe the goalie and defense a pint
  • Sounders can't suck that bad ever again (hopefully they read this)
I'm sure there are more but that will do for now. Finally, Rachaal (the manager at Naked) was informing me that the jerseys have been a hit with their patrons and vendors so they are going to purchase some to sell. Look for them around town. Just remember we are the true owners of the jerseys.

Clean sheet win and the heat

Way to get the clean sheet win this past week, 3-0 . The ladies of the team get the MVP for playing strong in the heat without any subs. Goals by John (2) and Will's PK. Overall a solid game with some good passing.

The game this weekend will probably a little cooler (but still damn hot) as it is a 9:30AM game at the new Magnuson Park field (#7). We are now playing teams for the 2nd time. We were up 2-0 on these guys before they scored 3 unanswered goals to snatch victory from us. Be sure to bring plenty of water, I'll bring the oranges, and if you haven't updated your status please do so ASAP or Knuckles is coming for you.

Finally, there is a Sounders away game at noon. Naked City is opening early (noontime) for us and the game so plan on having a few pints and watching the Sounders. Corrinia, our usual bartender on Sunday, gave us a list of items to bring:
  • Americano Coffee (pick up next door at Wayward Coffee)
  • Fresh Fruit (left over Oranges should work)
  • Something Shiny (ideas?)
  • Us (that means we need a strong showing)
I leave you with some great goal celebrations, see you on the pitch..

Last Game - Next Game

Nice win last weekend. Ellen gets the MVP for the amazing goal and assist. Others to score were Lowell and the last one escapes me but I think Bryan, Greg or Will (I need to post these recaps sooner obviously). Nice passing throughout the game, except when Bryan passed to the other team for the 2nd goal. There were 2 yellow cards, one to Mike L and one to Karl (stupid goalkeeper). The defense was solid as well. Nice 3 -2 win, we are now 2-0-2 (W-T-L) for the season, Co-Rec has not updated the standings yet so no update on that.

This weeks game is up in Shoreline on the nice turf fields. Looks like it is gonna be hot so bring plenty to drink. An orange volunteer is still needed, comment if you can bring them. Larrisa is getting them. Also, looks like we might be a little low on players depending on our maybe status folk...Sarah and Will hows is it looking? I am working on getting some subs but seems like a lot of folks are busy this weekend.

Now that we have the jerseys I have updated Team Cowboy with what color to wear for games (the little colored box on the game info). We will be red on Sunday and I have all the jerseys washed and ready for action, unless you got it last weekend. I would suggest always having a white shirt in the bag as a backup just in case. One note on the new jerseys, it was suggested to wash them inside out for a longer lifespan.

Highlights from the US win over Honduras last night (finals against Mexico on Sunday @ noon)

Game, jerseys, and payment

Game is late today against the last place team, let's get a victory so we can properly celebrate!! I can't remember if there was a volunteer for Oranges, if not please comment on this post if you are willing to grab 4 - 5 oranges and slice the for the game.

Speaking of celebrating, the jerseys are in and we will collect them after today's game at Naked City. There will be an official party and ceremony (OK, just the usual post game pints except with jerseys).

Finally, the first payment for next season is due. Same story for next season $85 for the season. If you could bring a check to one of the next two games that would be appreciated.

Hey team, Liam has an inside connect to some Chelsea tickets if you are looking. Email him and he can give you the details (you can do it via the Team Cowbo roster). Here is some info:

If you, or anyone you know is looking for Chelsea v Sounder tickets (12 noon), I am your guy. I have a bunch of tickets pried from $45 each (up to 12 together) to $85, all at or below my cost.

Done Deal

The check has been written and the jerseys are being printed. That's right it's a done deal. After several weeks of working to close the deal, checking out the styles, getting sized and coordinating payment the jerseys have been sent to the printer.

Looks like we should get them sometime late next week or shortly after that. We'll have to see about wearing them for the rest of the season as there are a few orange teams and that is generally a conflict. But when we play the other colors I assume we can wear them.

As for the game this weekend, its a late morning game way out on the Eastside. We are currently in a tie for third place, 1-0-1 (W-T-L), in the league and these guys are in 2nd with a record of 1-1-0. Looks like we have good numbers for the game.

Anyone want to bring Oranges? -- Update: Mara-Lisa has volunteered for this week

7/5 game recap

What a great victory!! A hard fought 2 - 1 win. Many thanks goes out to Mike G. for his superior goal keeping, some clutch saves. Overall a solid game by the entire team. The defense did a great job of keeping them on the outside and not letting them cross to the middle, and when they did the chances we well challenged. Greg gets one of the more interesting hat tricks I've seen by scoring all the goals in the game (including an own goal). Hats off to the ladies who played a good portion of the game without a sub, I know I couldn't have done that after drinking all day on the 4th. Bryan and Liam did a great job making the runs up front; Lowell slowed them down at midfield. And can I mention the fact the defense was solid on more time?

Next game is against Gamaka who were near the bottom of D1 last season. The game is another 11:15 game but way out on the Eastside at Perrigo. The Sounders game is at 1pm on Sat so hopefully folks we be better recovered than the late games.

One last note, all the jersey sizes have been submitted. If you didn't update the site I used others to decide your size. The order has not been submitted officially so there is still time but let me know what size you want. Order should go out soon, just need to get the final pricing and payment together.

6/21 Game and some housekeeping

Well, that one hurt a little...being up 2 - 0 and then losing 3 - 2 sucks. I think the take home from this one is we need to get better (as usual) at possession in the mid-field. I am calling myself out on this one and I hope I can answer the call. I think our midfield is getting sucked up into the offense too much and we need to do a better job of playing positions. Overall the play was solid, we just didn't step to the ball as well as we have recently. There were some great runs made by our wings, the ladies did a good job. Ellen and John got the goals and they were both pretty - nice job guys. We had a few other chances and just missed.

The jersey lady (Lisa) showed up at the end of the game (for the folks that weren't there). I need you all to update your Team Cowboy profile with your size (click update profile in the upper right under the donate image). A few notes for those of you who weren't there, sizes seem big - Greg was thinking a large, Ellen was a small, Debra was a medium. No numbers for us so that is optional. Remember that in the winter we'll need to wear undershirts, unless you are crazy, so factor that in. I am hoping to get the order together early next week.

Subs - just to be clear, there will be an email sent out when we need you folks. Until you get the email, please don't reply to the attendance (unless you can't make the game - but even then that isn't necessary). I want to be sure the folks that pay get enough playing time. Also, we are only getting jerseys for the full time folks but I am getting a few extras for when subs play.

Finally, no game next week. There is a Sounders Sunday home game (and a few of us are running the 1/2 marathon on Sat). Next game is July 5th so if you are out of town please respond to the attendance as soon as you can (nice job Ellen!).

See you on the pitch (or at the pub)

Last Game of the Spring, First game of the Summer

6/16 - A quick recap of the game this past weekend, good win. We did well to get those goals in. The corner kick from John off the crossbar to Liam's thigh was great. The PK just before the final whistle was tough for them, but I am sure that ball was heading to me and then the back of the net without that handball.

Overall a solid game, much thanks to Lowell and Mike for their superior keeping. The defense also held their own back there after the midfield left them hanging several times. The ladies on the wings and up top were solid, making some great runs and crosses.

We close out the season with a 4 - 2- 4 record. We start the new season facing a team that dropped from D1. We have played them in the past and never really fared all that well. That means we need to bring the A game and be ready for a battle.

Please be sure to wear white as our color until further notice. I am hoping the woman I am working with to get jerseys will be there with some sample sizes, styles, and colors. If you can get there by no later than 11 that would be great (earlier would be great as well). This will give us a chance to see the jerseys, feel them, and validate the sizes.

Bryan is on the hook for Oranges as a disciplinary action for missing last week's game on such short notice (actually he volunteered with a little poking). Pints will be at Naked City afterwards hopefully with a final decision on jerseys.

Be sure to update your status on Team Cowboy!

See you on the pitch

Final Game of Spring 09

This weekend is the final game of the spring 2009 season. We end playing the Dreaded-I Formation. They are last in the division and let's keep it that way. In the last meeting with them we ground out a 2 -1 win. Right now we are in 4th in the division with a 3 - 2 - 4 record (listed the proper way W - D - L unlike how Co-Rec does it). Let's get that last win to balance out the record and end the season on a winning note.

I was notified today the goalie Mike seems to be dealing with some "issues" that will keep him from tomorrow's game. We'll need folks to step up, Mike G is generally good for a half but we'll need some others to help out. Hopefully Bryan is back from his trip to the Olympic Pennisula so the guys will have a sub (not that he'll help in goal), looks like the Ladies are going to have a strong showing. I think Sarah may have confused the meaning of Yes and No, since being on Vacation usually means you aren't going to play but we'll see for sure on Sunday.

This is a late eastside game but a pint will be had at the Naked City. Still not sure on the responsible party for Oranges but I'll clear it up today or bring them myself.

Sounders game tonight...GO SOUNDERS

Oranges for 6/14?

Did someone volunteer for Oranges for this weekends game?

Summer Season Schedule

Summer Season schedule is posted at the Team Cowboy site. It starts right after the spring is complete so there is a game on 6/21. We play a lot next season at Magnuson Park (4 games), we have 2 grass field games, and only one East Side game. Lost of 11 or 11:15 am games. There are a few new teams in the division, a few from D1 and one I have never heard of before. We have one bye on 6/28 which is a home Sounders game, the bad side of that is we play on 7/5. Check out the schedule, Team Cowboy lets you export it in a format that you can add to Outlook or Google.

As for the sponsorship, I was there on Tuesday and spoke with Rachaal the manager. She requested we go with a darker color (instead of white or silver). We negotiated Red, so that takes care of the color. Once I got that dealt with, it basically comes down to getting some samples of the jerseys. I am going to try to meet with the lady I am working with and have Naked City weigh in (since they are getting some for their folks). Looks like our best options with her are the High 5 jerseys. I will keep you all posted on what happens. Hopefully we can get these halfway through the season.

Jersey Survey and Team Cowboy

I need all full time and sub team members to respond to the Team Cowboy email and activate your account.  This is required to get the schedule, game reminders, set attendance and get team emails.  If you did not get an email let me know and I will resend one to you.

Once you get your account please log in and fill out the jersey survey.  Check out Jersey samples here and here.  Not sure if we'll have other options but this seems to be what we have to work from.

6/7 Recap

That was a tough one today. We had a few opertunities but were definately on the defense most of the game. They were pretty physical and the ref didn't do much to curb that. Mike K was SOLID in goal and wins the MVP of the game for his 20 something saves (or so it seemed that way).

The lone goal was scored by Karl, off the left foot none the less. Liam and Ellen had a bunch of opportunity up top but couldn't get them past the old man goalie (he is quite wily). Kate, Sarah, Mara-Lisa, and Jenny did a great jobs on the wings. Larisa and Debra stopped or slowed down most of the runs down the sides. Will, Lowell and Mike L were all over the midfield and Mike G wan a anchor in the back.

We still need to figure out how to do a better job transitioning from the midfield to the offense. We seem to somehow get lost in that transition if it isn't long balls. The grass today didn't help as it was a slower game and they seemed to have a step on us. We did win the post game pint-a-thon, remaining undefeated in that event.

Next weekend is a late game (7 pm)on the Eastside at Marymoor , this is the last game of the Spring Season. I'll try to post next seasons schedule before that game. Please remember to activate your Team Cowboy account, if you didn't get an invite let me know.

Let's get Naked

First things first, looks like we have a sponsor - Naked City Tap House. I am going to try to get a few more things ironed out in the next couple days. At a minimum, it looks like we'll get jerseys. They offered happy hour discount after games, but Sundays is all day happy hour so we'll see if we can work something more there. The plan is for them to try to reduce the fee for the fall or winter (maybe both) but nothing is set in stone. I figure getting jerseys is a good start!!

As for the game this weekend let's pick up a win. It has been a while and we need to break ranks with the Sounders, unless of course they win tonight. Looks like we have a few maybes for guys this week...priorities boys. I have not found subs since it looks like they can both make it, plus we'll have enough ladies so at least we won't be short on the field.

I am expecting big things this weekend from our offense, we need goals people. The defense has been solid, midfield...(yeah that is me)...we need to pick it up and get back on defense or up on offense. Hopefully we'll have a sub so folks can get s few breaks. Mike K is up on the Orange detail this week, I'll be looking for volunteers for next weeks game

In other news, Summer packet pickup is Thursday. I'll do my best to post the new schedule before the Sunday game. With us moving to a new team name (although not for summer) we'll probably be moving to Team Cowboy for our schedule/attendance. More to come on all that soon

See you on the pitch.

5/31 Game recap

6/2 - Wow, what a game...where to begin...?

Let's start with that was a pretty good tie...it's always good to get a point against those guys. The amazing goal was setup by Sarah taking the foul. Bryan took the free kick and Will was in the right place to put it in the net, past what I consider the best goalie in our division. After going into the half down 1 to 0 (at least the way I remember it) the orange slices regenerated the team and we had a great 2nd half. We had some great chances and didn't give them too many. Overall great job on defense. The front line did a great job getting free (especially on the wings). MVP goes to Will for the goal, Gordie Howe award goes to Greg (who got a red).

Post game events we had at Naked City. It was a strong showing with at least 8 team members and some of their significant others. There is really nothing new to report on the sponsorship front but I have sent a followup email and am waiting for a response.

Next week is against George, we have played them in the past. The game is at 2:45 at Mountlake Terrace
- on a grass field. Should be fun!!

Mike K is on the hook for the orange slices

Game 5/31 and Sponsorship

Big game this weekend against the arch rivals Azul. We'll need to have our A game on to pull off the win.  We currently sit tied for third, technically in forth with the tie breaker. Azul is within reach in second. Let's go out there and get the win!! Hopefully the bye week doesn't affect us too much.

It's going to be hot; apparently because Gilbrough is playing.  Be sure to bring plenty to drink.  Debra and I will have the orange slices for the new traditional half time treat.  Looks like we'll have at least a sub for each gender (maybe 2 if folks get their priority's straight) so let's be sure to use them.  The game is late enough in the day that I expect the effects of party after the Sounders win Friday will have subsided.

On the sponsorship front: Much effort has been put in buy folks on the team, some more than others, to frequent Naked City who we are courting as a sponsor.  They recently had a budget meeting and our sponsorship was discussed.  I spoke with the manager last night and we are for sure in the running.  They want to buy us shirts and help pay some of our season fees.  This is not a done deal but getting closer to reality.  That said, we probably should try to have a pint there after the game Sunday, I know its a drive from south Seattle but some of us live in the area so why not.  Any thoughts on a team name if we are sponsored by them? Last night the manager there mention Naked City Players...

Sundays Game - 5/17

Great game team. We totally should have won but the mix up with the time and the late goal by the Blue Fish caused us to end with a tie. Solid work up front for Bryan, Karie, Karl, and Will (when he wasn't defending). Speaking of defense we left those folks on islands a couple of times and they came through. Mike G., Greg, Will, Mara-Lisa, and Larissa really held down the back third of the field. When they couldn't get there goalie Mike was there. The mid field (the few folks that played there as it seemed to be a long ball game) held their own, Mike Little was a force in the middle and Jennie, Debra and super sub Katie supported on the wings.

After going into then half down 1 to nil, the 2nd half started with a flurry by the BOC (possibly due to the Orange slices provided by Liam). Brian had a great assist to Will to put us on the board and tie the game 1 -1. The sea of blue (as they were white today) continued to pressure the defense. Midway through the 2nd half, Karl shot one on goal that had enough behind it to power its way through the goalie's hands. Sadly many other opportunities were missed but there was good pressure and several shots on goal.

The last 4 minutes, opps I mean 15 minutes, the BOC was under pressure. We had changed our style based on the time given by the ref. This resulted in an offsides goal (yes it stands) by the other team.

So we looked like the Sounders this week, definitely the better team on the pitch (wait they played like crap, sorry about that comparison) but coming out with a draw. That puts us at 3 -3 -1 for the season with 3 games left.

No game next week due to the holiday weekend. Next game is against Azul the arch enemies so bring your game face.

--karl

Possible Sponsorship

5/17 - We are in discussions with the Naked City Tap House about possible sponsorship of our soccer team moving forward. They are planning on sponsoring 2 teams and we are one of the current three. I'll keep folks posted on the progress of these efforts.

--karl

Sunday Slices

5/17 - We discussed implementing the fact we get Orange slices at all games moving forward. They were such a great lift at half time this past game (Thank Liam!!) that it was decided by upper management to continue the trend.

That said next game (in two weeks) the sliced will be provided by Karl and Debra. Moving forward it would be great if folks volunteered to bring them. It works out to be about 4 -5 oranges cut into quarters.

Please comment on what you think about this initiative.
